This morning, May 26th 2023, the Opening Ceremony and the first discussion session of the International Scientific Conference “Application of hospital-based health technology assessment: International experiences and Vietnam perspectives” took place at the university. The conference was organized by Hong Bang International University (HIU) in collaboration with the Vietnam Medical Association and Health Technology Assessment and Application Research Institute (HTARI).

This is considered the first time in Vietnam that an hospital-based international conference has been held in the field of health technology assessment at the hospital level. More than 200 experts and senior medical staff from within the country and from the Russian Federation, Thailand and Singapore were present at the Conference to interact, discuss and learn, bringing timely and appropriate solutions to the needs of the patient. At the conference, Prof.Dr. Yagudina Roza Ismailovna (Sechenov National Medical University, Russian Federation), MSc. Saudamini Vishwanath Dabak (HITAP, Thailand), MSc. Pwee Keng Ho (Changi General Hospital, Singapore) shared content about Health Technology Assessment Applications in the Russian Federation, Thailand and Singapore. Accordingly, in many countries around the world, general health technology assessment and budget impact analysis have been considered important tools for the priority setting and health policy planning process, especially in building health insurance benefit packages for medicines.

Health technology assessment will contribute to solving the problem in the context of limited budget resources and increasing medical costs, while still ensuring the best medical care and intervention for patients. This is not only an issue that hospitals and the health sector are concerned about but is a “hot” issue for the whole society. In order for the development of health policies, especially the development of health insurance benefit packages, to have breakthrough changes, become increasingly transparent, based on clear scientific evidence, ensuring the harmonious benefits of all stakeholders. To ensure the solvency of the health insurance fund, building and developing a medical technology assessment system is very necessary and important.
